The Chelsea Hotel, Toronto is committed to operating as a responsible company by integrating environmental and social consideration into our development and day-to-day activities, to contribute to building a better world. Environmental protection is one of our four focus areas in our corporate sustainability programme – CONNECT, as we recognize that our property uses significant amounts of energy, water and other natural resources, as well as generating waste. We endeavour to minimize these impacts on the environment in which we operate. While the hotel will protect the ecological environment in its surroundings, the vision is to become a role model amongst hospitality operators for environmental impact, awareness and reduction. As Canada’s largest hotel with 1,590 rooms and a business operating in a large community in downtown Toronto, there are challenges associated with going “green” - which include our size, location and the age of the building – the hotel is 49 years old this year.
Sustainability elements are integrated into our design and day-to-day operations to ensure our guests are enjoying our essential services in this sustainable living environment.

3. Bees
Since 2018, bees have taken up residence on the fourth-floor
rooftop of the Chelsea Hotel, Toronto. A partnership between the hotel and Toronto Bee Rescue has been helping to
preserve Canada’s bee population, which are responsible for pollinating
flowering plants, fruits, and vegetables. Toronto Bee Rescue is an urban beekeeping
operation founded by Peter Chorabik and Sarah Allinson. Following in the steps
of three previous generations of hobby beekeeping, Peter has turned the family
hobby into a family business. Toronto Bee Rescue specializes in the human
removal and relocation of established honeybee colonies. Chelsea is home to
four bee hives: Wildflower Lodge, Honey Hub, Bee Club Lounge, and the Chelsea
Sweet.
Starting in 2021, we began selling 130-gram jars
of Chelsea honey at our Market Garden restaurant, with 100% of the proceeds
benefiting our charity, the SickKids Foundation. Additionally, Chef Kapoor
creatively incorporates Chelsea honey into the 2024 Elm Street Bar & Lounge
restaurant menu, including cocktails.
